Pop up and say BOO!

Hello and welcome back to another Tuesday Tutorial.  This week as Halloween draws ever nearer I thought I would guide you through a Pop Up card!  Sorry if I'm teaching you things you already know but sometimes a refresher is nice too!
Anyway as always I made sure I had all the necessary ingredients ready to hand!

I have used two of Wendy's Halloween images from Digital Delights as you can see above.
Firstly in order to make your image stand out when you open the card you need to make a "stand" within the card.  I would recommend using a slightly heavier card stock than normal as you don't want it to bend and give way once you have stuck your image to the stand.
Fold your card stock in half - I use my Top Score Multiboard from Crafter's Companion to do this.  If you rest your cardstock against the lip you can then fold the other half to it with no overlap.

Next you need to cut out your "stand". Find the middle of the card and draw 2 lines about 2cm apart and approximately 3 cms in length (this will depend on how big your image is inside your card),then cut along these lines.

Open out the card and push the "stand" inwards and as you are doing this fold the card in half in order to crease the stand.

Your "stand" will then stick out on the inside of your card as you can see below:

Now obviously nobody wants to see a piece cut out of their card do they? So in order that this isn't seen - take a piece of cardstock - colour dependant on what theme your card is! and stick it to the outside of the original cardstock. Make sure you don't use any glue or tape across the gap or your stand won't Pop Up!

Next you will need to cut out and colour in your images you intend to use on your card,

I used watercolour pencils, my waterbrush, metallic pencils and Sakura Gelly Glaze pens to colour in the images.  The Cauldron was coloured using a Sakura Gelly Glaze pen and I'm not entirely happy with the finish - I wouldn't recommend them for large areas like this as you can't go over the colour again as it lifts off the cardstock.
You will notice that I have not tried to cut out the "strings" on Ghost Billy's balloons.  That would just be too hard.  More about that later!

Next job is to adhere your image to the stand inside your card.  I used extra strong double sided tape for this but you could use whatever adhesive you prefer. Now more about those bat balloons.  I decided to use some purple wire to attach the balloons to Billy's hands.  Firstly stick the wire to the back of the ballons and then shape the wire so that it fits over the strings on his hands and using a small piece of wire, push the two ends through Billy's hand and twist it at the back so that the wires on the front don't move.

Lastly, stick all your papers and image to the front of the card.  I used silicone gel to stick the teddy in the cauldron to the front to give it a bit of height and added interest.  The papers I used were from the Creative Cottage freebie package called Spooktacular - be quick it won't be free for long!!!!
And so, here is the finished card outside:......

and inside.........

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial enough to go and give it a go.  Please leave a link on here so that I can come and have a look at yours!!
See you in two weeks time when it most definitely will feel more like Christmas.
Don't forget to pop over to the Digital Delights blog site in the next few days to get some sneak peeks at the new releases!!!  I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
