Digital Versatility with Pink Ribbon Maggie!

I am quite sure that you are all aware how versatile Digital Images can be. This, my first tutorial, is designed to show you some of that versatility.

Firstly I made a card using Digital Delights “Pink Ribbon Maggie” which was one of Wendy’s Friday Freebie’s. If you missed her you can purchase her (along with many fabulous other images) at Digital Delights - it really is worth a visit (but make sure you’ve got your purse ‘cos you’ll be spoilt for choice!)
I always like to make sure I have all my bits and pieces to hand before I start - hopefully that way you don’t forget anything.  Just a word of advice that I'm sure you already know - make sure your card is the right way up before you start securing everything - it is really annoying to finish everything and find out it is upside down!!! Believe me - I've done it! LOL

Now, I decided I wanted to use an embossed piece of card in pink for the backing paper - but…. CRISIS!!! ……. Didn’t have any. So I found a piece of white embossed card and using the chalks covered it with pink chalk.

Once you have chalked it all over (or in parts whichever you fancy) spray it lightly with a little hairspray to “seal” the chalk otherwise you will get the chalk over everything.

TA DA!!!!

Next I attached the pink flowers - Bling Blossoms from Imaginisce with white flower brads (from a mixed box of Papermania brads) to the Ribbon strip of backing paper which was a download from Crafter’s Companion, Members only downloads and then put this to one side.
Having printed Pink Ribbon Maggie onto white cardstock and cut her out in an oval shape I placed this onto a backing piece of pink oval card. For my cutting out I use a piece of equipment called Lighthouse Memories Oval Cutter and More (click the link to see what it looks like), which I bought from Create and Craft years ago and never used! (Not any more!!)

Now to put it all together. Double sided tape is my tool of choice for this job. I put the tape onto all the pieces that need attaching to the card, starting with the pink chalked card and then adding all the other elements on top. To give it a bit of bling I added small pink gems at the center of each flower and on the centre of the Pink Ribbon on the sentiment.  This is also part of the Pink Ribbon Maggie freebie and I have printed it out smaller and cut it out in an oval shape to go at the bottom of the card.  I also used a Pink Chalk ink pad to "chalk" round the outside of the sentiment.

At this point although Maggie is placed onto the card - it is not secured as I want to colour her in before I attach her to the card.
She is coloured using watercolour pencils for the dress, hair, skin and shoes, Sakura Gelly Glaze pen in pink for the ribbons in her hair and her socks and glitter pens for the small ribbons and flowers on her dress. I then attached the piece of pink oval card to the main card using my glue gun. (Mind your fingers - it gets extra specially hot!!)  I finished her off with a piece of pink ribbon from my stash.

So where’s the versatility I hear you ask ?????????????????????

I know that you are all probably well aware of how to adjust the size of a digi image but for those of you who have never used digi images - this is for you.
I hit a problem here - I had done some screen prints to put in here to show you what I meant but alas I could not find a way of including them in the post.  I will do some homework on this unless anyone knows how to do it??
I used Microsoft Works for this but you can use whatever package you have available - they should all work very similarly. Using a blank document go to the toolbar at the top of the page and click on “insert”, go down to “picture” and then choose “from file”. This will take you to where all your pictures are stored - choose the relevant image and click “open”. This will insert the image into your document. You will see several little black “boxes” or “handles” around the image - at this point you need to format your image to be able to alter the size. Right click on the image and go down to “format object”. Choose “square” on the “wrapping” tab and then click OK.
This will then enable you to click on one of the “handles” in the bottom corner and whilst keeping your finger down on the mouse drag the size of the box to however big you want your image to be. I did this several times and dragged each image into little lines of pink Maggies so they covered the page.
Then I printed this page onto a piece of pink cardstock so that I had a page of pink Maggie’s - literally.
On the reverse of this cardstock I printed a template for a favour box. Scored all the lines and then glued the tab into place so that I had my very own Pink Maggie favour box.

An ideal box to put a scarf into - something many many women with breast cancer would be pleased to receive and you could always finish it off with a pink ribbon if you wanted to.
So there you have it - just a couple of ways to use digital images. I hope you enjoyed what you have seen and I look forward to your comments. See you again in two weeks time - next week it’s over to Deanne for another fabulous creation.

Thanks Dawn! What a fantastic tutorial! I especially appreciate the info on how to size in WORD, I had no idea...I always just use my photo program, but it's more difficult to duplicate like you did for your favour box. Thank you so much for this valuable info! Your Maggie card is absolutely gorgeous!
Hugs,
Lisa
